Colorado River Fishing Report- September 5, 2018-Vail & Beaver Creek , CO

March Brown on Streamer

Colorado River Fishing report for: September 5,  2018

Conditions are Fantastic on the Upper & Lower Colorado!

Arguably the most famous river in the state, the Colorado River is also probably the most diverse fishery as well. The sections of the Colorado we fish/guide start above the Kremmling area and extends to the Rifle area west of Glenwood Springs roughly 80 plus miles of floatable and wade able river. Many miles of the upper Colorado make its way through some of the most scenic areas that you can access only by boat or hiking in. Large Browns and Rainbows as well as some native Colorado River Cutthroats.  The Colorado is a great Terrestrial river during the warmer Summer months when big fish are looking for a Grasshopper falling from the banks.  Spring and Fall is Streamer season on the “C”, that’s when we like to throw large double streamer rigs on 6-7wt rods for the big Pre-spawn browns.  If you are mystified by the whole streamer program, then it’s time to get on board by taking advantage of our off-season guide rates and get out with us.

9/5/2018- The flows on the upper C are being managed for late summer water calls down stream for power and Agriculture.  Releases have been increased in the last few days on the Colorado greatly improving the water temps.. Conditions have been really good on the Upper C above Dotsero to Pumphouse.  Voluntary PM closure has been lifted.  The dry fly action on the Colorado has been incredible the last month.  PMD’s, Caddis, Tricos and BWOs are all hatching.  Afternoon Hopper fishing is great!!!   The float fishing on the lower river below Glenwood springs offer a chance at trophy Trout on streamers and nymphs right now.  Some good afternoon dry fly action on the lower stretch as well. The flows are being managed for later summer draws for  Agriculture… so conditions on the upper C are very good!
